Navigating the Mojave Wasteland in Fallout: New Vegas often brings players across unique companions, but few offer as much utility and hidden lore as the prototype Eyebot ED-E. Triggering his personal companion quest reveals deep Enclave secrets while providing permanent performance upgrades for your journey. Completing this story arc requires traveling across various settlements and interacting with specific key characters.
Finding and Repairing ED-E in Primm
To begin the quest, players must locate the damaged Eyebot resting on a counter inside the Mojave Express office in Primm. You can restore ED-E using a Repair skill check of 65, or a Science check of 55 followed by a 35 Repair check. Alternatively, gathering three scrap metals, two sensor modules, and one scrap electronics allows you to fix him without high skill levels.
Triggering the Enclave Audio Logs
Once ED-E is active as a companion, speaking to certain NPCs triggers pre-recorded Enclave audio logs stored within his memory banks. Key keyword triggers include characters like Old Lady Gibson at Gibson Scrapyard, Ignacio Rivas or NCR troopers at HELIOS One, or Doctor Henry at Jacobstown. After hearing the first audio log, players must wait five in-game days before a second trigger dialogue will play.
Choosing Between the Factions
After unlocking both logs, both the Brotherhood of Steel and the Followers of the Apocalypse will attempt to contact you regarding the robot's stored data. You must decide whether to send ED-E to Senior Knight Lorenzo at the Hidden Valley bunker or April Martimer at the Old Mormon Fort. Choosing the Brotherhood grants ED-E enhanced defense armor, while choosing the Followers upgrades his laser weapon.
Finalizing the Upgrades and Quest Completion
Handing over ED-E to your chosen faction leaves him unavailable for three to five in-game days while scientists analyze his systems. Once the modification process finishes, he returns automatically to the Nash residence inside Primm. Re-recruiting ED-E at this location officially completes the quest and secures his upgraded abilities permanently.
